Q. What is it?
A. A book.
Q. Can you elaborate?
A. Sure. It's a picture book (with concise accompanying text fragments).
Q. Will it have a DVD insert? I have hours of cool movie
footage and some even cooler glitch music I'd like to submit.
A. No. we do not have plans for a DVD / CD insert. The book is purely about 'still' Glitch Visuals. If you feel your work can be described by providing stills from your video, then submit!
Q. How big?
A. Not decided, but it will fit neatly on your parents' coffee table.
Q. When? Where?
A. Give it a year or so to go through the publishing process. The world.
Q. What do you want?
A. Glitch imagery. Maybe look at the authors' websites for what we do, but we want a wide range of personal styles. We don't want to prescribe a style. We want to be guided by your submitted artworks.
Q. How many?
A. Ultimately, it is very likely that only ONE image will be selected
for publication from selected artists' works. However, you are welcome
to send us several to choose from. If you are sending several images,
please send us low-resolution versions initially, to save on disk space and download time.
Q. Can I send you a link to my submission in my webspace?
A. Yes. But please ensure the files remain online until at least the end of March if you're submitting before March 20th
to give us time to properly review the submitted artworks.
Q. Tell me about image formats.
A. For photographic (ie. continuous-tone) images, 300 dpi is preferred,
and the format is preferably tiff or jpeg (at highest quality setting).
If the length of the longest side is at least 12 inches, we will be
able to scale it down to fit the page without loss of quality.
For pixellated images (ie. made from solid blocks of colour),
please don't use jpeg format, because it will blur the
colour boundaries. Instead, a lossless format such as gif or bmp
or tiff is preferred.
Q. Do I have to write a load of fancy artspeak to
accompany the pictures I send?
A. No. This isn't 1981. A concise description of how the image was created, and
maybe a bit of background about what motivated you to produce
the artwork. Something short and interesting.
Q. Will you edit the text I submit?
A. Yes. All text will be edited to maintain constant tone,
style and rhythm throughout the book. Final drafts will be cleared
with the artists.
Q. What do I get in return?
A. You get to bore the pants off your friends and family
by telling them about your entry in the glitch book. (You might
consider getting your page laminated.)
Apart from that, being a published artist might bring
further benefits should you decide to persue the opportunity.
Q. If I submit an artwork, will I ever hear from you again, or
should I check the website?
A. We will, as a matter of courtesy, get back to everyone who
submits work. For artists whose work we want to include, we
will be in close contact throughout the publishing process.
Q. I'm not sure if my work is good enough to submit. I'm not
really an artist. I feel out of my depth. I bet everybody else's
work is better than mine. What should I do?
A. Please submit your work! We're friendly people, not aloof
arty types.
Q. Why does the world exist?
A. Because it hasn't crashed yet.
